Planning your dream island getaway can be exhausting. So many places to choose from – and if you’re a seasoned traveler, you’ve probably been to all the best places already. The Maldives, Jamaica, the Caymans, Aruba, Hawaii – all gorgeous places, but you want something different, somewhere unspoiled, pristine, quiet. A place to soak up the peace and indulge in opulence without losing that authentic island vibe. If only such a fantasy haven existed…
You’re in for a treat. Nestled in the warm embrace of the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Africa, lies a tiny slice of utopia, a nation made up of 115 little islands. One of the smallest countries in the world, but bursting with charm, hospitality, and heart-stopping beauty.
I present to you: Seychelles.
If this stunning island nation hasn’t been on your radar yet, don’t feel bad. Seychelles is something of a hidden gem, frequented by royalty, Hollywood elite, and travelers like you who appreciate the finer things in life. This secluded paradise will satisfy all your biggest travel fantasies. Lush greenery, blindingly white beaches, sparkling seas in every shade of blue, bold granite mountains, and some of the friendliest people in the world.
Each island has its own personality, but the three most popular are Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue.
Mahé – This is the largest of the islands, and where you’ll find Victoria, the capital city. One of the smallest capital cities in the world! Dramatic mountainscapes, postcard-perfect beaches, and calm seas make this a fantastic choice for a first stay in Seychelles. Visit Morne Seychellois National Park for some hiking, jump in the water for snorkeling or scuba diving, and relax in one of the island’s elegant 5-star resorts.
Praslin – The next largest island after Mahé, Praslin is a picturesque, peaceful paradise. Every bit as elegant as big sister Mahé, the pace here is a bit more laid back. Although it’s rated as having some of the best beaches in the world, Praslin offers more than just beach lounging. Explore the hidden valleys and wild forests of Vallee de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
La Digue – If you’re seeking a more authentic vibe, be sure to visit La Digue. At half the size of Praslin, this tiny island is best explored by bicycle. If you’re craving the chance to go offline and really slow down, this is the perfect place to do so. Wander the local villages where life moves at a slower pace. Explore the untouched coastline. Discover hidden coves and find your perfect secret beach. Unplug and bask in the peace.
There are a few things to know before you book that vacation – the most important being that wherever you choose to go in Seychelle, you’re going to have a life-changing, beautiful trip. Having said that…
Weather – The weather is warm all year round, with temperatures from the 70s to 80s. December and January are the rainiest months.
Currency – Seychellois Rupees. At the time of writing are approximately 1 USD = 13 SCR.
Visa – Seychelle is a visa-free country! A visitor permit will be issued upon arrival.
Language – Seychellois Creole is the most common language, but French and English are also spoken.
To recap: perfect weather, no visa required, they speak English, and you couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous, unspoiled island getaway. We’ll safely assume that this stunning island country is now at the top of your travel list.
