Stay Fit and Fabulous – 5 Simple Tips

Travel is all about having adventures, exploring the world, and creating wonderful memories – but you won’t be doing any of that if you get sick while you’re on vacation. You want to spend time seeing the sights, not spend time seeing the inside of your hotel room because you’re too sick or run down to venture out.

Of course, you know the basics – be careful drinking the water in other countries, wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer, and all of that. But staying healthy on your well-deserved vacation is about a lot more than just not getting sick – you want to be feeling great and ready to make the most of your trip.

Keep these 5 tips in mind when you’re traveling and you’ll be feeling fresh and ready for anything!

  1. Pack smart. Of course, you’ll remember to bring any medication and supplements you take (right?), but be sure to also include things you might need, just in case. Think Imodium AD, vitamin C powder shots, motion sickness pills, ginger shots to help with stomach upset… don’t go overboard and pack the whole medicine cabinet, but a few extra things can come in really handy in case of emergency.
  1. Go for healthy snacks. It’s easy to grab junk food from the vending machine or all you can eat buffets when you get hungry on vacation, but aim for fresh fruit where possible instead. Plus, the fruit in some countries is so much better than anything you get in grocery stores back home, so you’ll be missing out if you don’t try it!
  1. Make early dinner reservations. When you eat dinner late at night, all that food just sits in your stomach when your metabolism slows down as you sleep. This makes it harder for you to get a good night’s sleep – and also isn’t good for the waistline. Eat dinner earlier in the evening instead.
  1. Don’t fill up on street food. While trying new and delicious street food is an exciting part of traveling, it’s important not to overindulge. Instead, try sampling a few different dishes in moderation and opt for options that are cooked or grilled rather than raw. And even though it can be easy to overeat while on vacation, try to practice portion control. So, if you do decide to indulge in street foods, try sharing meals with a friend or taking leftovers back to your hotel room for later.

Get in that hotel gym. If your hotel has a gym, how about using it instead of just walking by it on the way to the vending machines? Even if you just do 30 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical, make it a habit to keep your fitness up. You could also do laps in the pool or just go for a brisk walk in the morning – just get moving!

Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you have to let your health and fitness slide. By keeping fit, you’ll be able to enjoy your trip even more, as you’ll feel fabulous! Follow these 5 easy tips while you’re off having adventures and you’ll have a much better time – we promise!
