Resolution Revolution: Travel Goals to Make 2024 Memorable

As January 1st creeps closer, you’re probably thinking about what you’d like to do differently next year. But while you’re making your list of resolutions for 2024, don’t forget to include your travel resolutions for the year ahead! Need some help deciding? We’ve got you.

Step outside your comfort zone.

Doing something that’s a bit scary is a great way to broaden your horizons and get to know yourself better. Afraid of heights? Head up to the observation deck at the Empire State Building. Nervous about swimming? Go snorkeling somewhere beautiful (with supervision – always be safe first!).

Do a solo trip.

There’s nothing like the freedom of traveling by yourself. You decide where you want to go, what you want to do, and when you want to stop. It’s a truly liberating experience everyone should try at least once.

Do a bestie trip.

Life gets busy, and it’s easy to neglect your closest friendships. Strengthen the bond with your best friend with a trip just for the two of you. Road trips are especially fun for this – snacks, music, and the open road!

Try new food – and learn to cook it.

One of the best parts of travel is trying exciting new cuisine. Be brave and try the weird item on the menu you’d normally avoid. Take it one step further and buy a cookbook or sign up for a cooking class so you can make your new favorite treats back home!

Learn a new dance.

Whether it’s the tango in Argentina or the waltz in Germany, many countries have a dance they’re known for. Do your research and learn about the local dance styles, and sign up for a class to learn while you’re there!

Dive into your heritage.

Are you a quarter Irish on your father’s side? Is your mother’s family from Tanzania? Do you have cousins you’ve never met in Delhi? Learn a bit more about your heritage by visiting the lands of your ancestors and distant relatives. You never know what you might learn about your family tree!

Switch up your travel style.

Do you normally plan every second of your itinerary? Or do you just go with the flow and see where your vacation takes you? Whichever you normally do, try the opposite. Easygoing travelers might discover a newfound love for structure, and rigid planners might benefit from easing up and being more relaxed about their plans.

Learn a new language.

With apps like Duolingo, it’s easier than ever to learn a new language. But of course, the best way to test out your skills and learn more is by full immersion. Learning Spanish? Plan a trip to Barcelona. Head off to Kyoto to practice your Japanese, or spend a couple weeks in Paris brushing up on French (we find that wine helps with this).

Volunteer.

“Voluntourism” is a popular way to see the world while making a difference at the same time. Decide what sort of volunteer work you’d like to take part in, do your research online, and find companies that arrange travel to help with different projects around the globe.

Hit at least one spot on your travel bucket list.

Have you always dreamed about learning to surf in Australia? Maybe you’ve long had a secret yearning to spend a month backpacking across Europe? Or do you fantasize about exploring the ancient temples and pyramids of Egypt? If you’re anything like us, you’ve got a long bucket list of places you want to visit. Make this the year you check one more of those places off your list!

Don’t have a travel bucket list? Well then, your first resolution should be to make one! Let 2024 be the year you start experiencing more of the big wide wonderful world! And if you need help making those travel resolutions come true, you know where to find us!
