There’s nothing like the Land of the Rising Sun, especially in the springtime! Japan in spring is an absolute dream because this is when the cherry blossoms come out to play. Tokyo

In Tokyo, the cherry blossom main event is Ueno Park’s Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the country’s largest and most celebrated events during the sakura season. With over a thousand cherry trees in full bloom, the park becomes a kaleidoscope of pink petals and jubilant crowds. The festival, also known as Ueno Sakura Matsuri, is a must-visit for those seeking an authentic hanami (“flower viewing”) experience. Enjoy hanami parties with locals and fellow travelers, sampling traditional tasty Japanese snacks and drinks under the blooming cherry trees.
Beyond the Blossoms:
Tokyo is like another planet, something you need to see to believe. Visit the historic Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, marvel at the wild fashion in the Harajuku district, or lose yourself in the electronic wonderland of Akihabara. Take part in a traditional tea ceremony or learn about modern anime culture. One thing’s for sure – you’ll never be bored in Tokyo!
Kyoto
Hanami in the Gion District:
Kyoto, the cultural heart of Japan, is a more peaceful location for cherry blossom viewing compared to Tokyo. Amidst the ancient temples and traditional machiya houses (traditional wooden houses), the Gion District of Kyoto stands out as a prime spot for hanami. Take a stroll along the charming streets lined with cherry trees, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a geisha gracefully gliding by. But the magic doesn’t stop there…
Beyond the Blossoms:
If you’re feeling fit, visit Fushimi Inari shrine and hike through the iconic orange torii gates. Dive into Kyoto’s rich history with a visit to Gion’s historic tea houses, traditional shops, and hidden alleys. Join a walking tour and learn more about Gion’s most famous residents, the geisha.
Hirosaki
Cherry Blossom Cruise:
For something a bit different, experience the magic of cherry blossoms from the water on a cruise in Hirosaki. Picture yourself serenely drifting along, surrounded by delicate cherry blossoms in full bloom. For those seeking an adrenaline rush amidst the blossoms, Hakuba offers an unexpected twist to your cherry blossom adventures. Nestled in the Japanese Alps, this resort town allows you to hit the slopes while being surrounded by cherry blossoms. Imagine the thrill of skiing against a backdrop of pink petals (and picture how gorgeous it’ll look on your Instagram). It’s the best part of winter and spring combined!
